Cary Solar Plant a Model for Raleigh

wind_3WRAL is reporting that the Raleigh City Council is considering a solar energy farm similar to a facility already operating in Cary.

The Cary solar plant on Trenton Road near SAS generates about 1 megawatt of power, enough to power about 200 homes.

Southern Energy Management of Morrisville designed the Cary facility, utilizing more than 5,000 solar panels. It is one of the largest clean energy plants in the state.

The Raleigh City Council has agreed to lease 10 acres of land to Progress Energy for a plant similar to the Cary facility. A vote on the project is expected later this year.
