Roger Henderson, of Henderson Consulting, with a board illustrating site design standards
The Town of Cary hosted an open house on Tuesday July 28 to continue the public discussion for development standards in Cary.
In a casual setting at The Page Walker House, staff set up boards and diagrams showcasing the results from a citizen workshop held to help prioritize criteria for future development characteristics within the town.
There has been a real shift of focus toward more pedestrian and bicycle- friendliness in Cary. Fully 40% of town roads going forward will aim to be more connected, more human in scale, and easier to access without a motor vehicle.
Roads maintained by the NCDOT will not be included in these new guidelines, only Town of Cary roadways. But these guidelines will include streets within neighborhoods, mixed-use developments and mall sites. Connectivity to and within sites was a major focus.
The event was well attended including 2 candidates for Town Council District A, Lori Bush and Cindy Sinkez. A survey was offered for attendees at the close to further aid the plans. From here, town staff will review the guidelines and present them to the Planning & Zoning Board for recommendation to the Town Council.

Glad to see they are thinking in terms of more human-friendly. Seems like a challenge given the basic layout of the roads here though.
The site is looking great BTW. Nice job!
