People are passionate about their doughnuts. Some like Krispy Kremes. Others fancy Dunkin Donuts. My neighbor is partial to Daylight Donuts on Maynard. All good.

But, for my money, the best doughnuts in Cary come from Sweet Traditions on North Harrison.

First and foremost, the doughnuts are superb. Generously sized, but light and fluffy. Coated with chocolate, drizzled with icing or smothered in sprinkles, these are doughnuts to make your co-workers swoon with envy.

Owner Linda Maass used to work as an engineer for a large construction equipment maker in the Triangle. Now she builds doughnuts. “Our goal is to be the biggest baker in the area,” Maass said. Sweet Traditions bakes 60-80 dozen donuts a day and plans to double their output in the near future. In addition to the retail shop, the bakery supplies about 20 other lucky stores in the area.

  • Freshness – Hot and fresh from the oven, just like a doughnut should be.
  • Variety- Nice selection. Not huge, but what they do, they do very well.
  • Atmosphere – Small, nothing fancy. Sometimes the best places are housed in modest surroundings.
  • Value – Excellent value. Doughnuts and other baked g00ds are very reasonably priced. Coffee and a fresh doughnut is less than $1.50.

Don’t like doughnuts? There are apple fritters, cinnamon twists, black & white cookies and a dozen other freshly made treats every day.

Closed Mondays. Call (919) 462-0320‎ for store hours. Tell them CaryCitizen sent you.
