The Indigo Girls played Koka Booth on Sunday Sept 27
The Grammy award-winning duo, the Indigo Girls, came to Cary’s Koka Booth Ampitheater Sunday night for the fifth annual Carolina Hopefest to benefit sustainable development in Africa.
This year Hopefest is partnering with Nourish International, a student led movement to eradicate global poverty. Since 2003, Nourish International has sent more than 140 students and $140,000 to 22 countries. All proceeds from the event will be matched by the organization’s chapters around the world.
The music festival opened the gates at 5:30 and music started around 6pm. Other featured artists were Matt Nathanson, Christa Wells, Jon Shain and Mumbling Beefheads. We truly enjoyed Matt Nathanson , who finished up with his big Hit “Come on Get Higher” which got the whole crowd singing.
The Indigo Girls took the stage in their usual subdued way. Onstage, it was just the two of them and their guitars, which they replaced every song. As they started playing, the largely female crowd began singing along with every song. The harmonies of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray and their superb acoustic guitar styles were the perfect background for a beautiful and comfortable early fall evening. They finished up with their biggest hit “Galileo” to a standing ovation form the crowd.

It was not an evening of crazy theatrics, but rather honest, down-to-earth music played straight up from the heart and in an effort to help others.
Truly a great night in a great venue.
