Results from last week’s contest between Apex and GHHS

Knowing the winner of this game would more than likely wrap up the Tri9 conference title, we knew it would be a battle. Plus, Apex and Green Hope have developed a great rivalry over the years, so that added to the drama.

Apex scored 4 minutes into the game on a well hit volley from 20 yards away, then we tied it up with a finish by Jared Girard in the 6 yard box. Apex took the lead again, 2-1 when they crossed it in and we deflected it into our own goal.

In the second half, we changed our formation to a more attacking system and Jared Jared was able to score again to make it 2-2. With four minutes left, a few of our players were tired, so we put in a couple of reserves.

With 9 seconds left, one of the reserve defenders, Ryan Konrad, took a shot from close to 30 yards away that found the upper corner of the net for the 3-2 lead. Apex was only able to shoot from the kick-off from 55 yards away and it missed the goal as time expired. A thrilling way for Green Hope to come from behind to secure the victory.

We face Holly Springs Monday for the final conference game of the year.

Final Scores
Green Hope High School Varsity Men’s Soccer – 3
Apex High School – 2
