Is your refrigerator keeping you up at night or your washing machine ready to spin out?  Or have you just been thinking about upgrading to some new appliances?  Well do your research fast and don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy some savings with the Sales Tax Holiday on Energy Star appliances.

Friday, November 6th through Sunday, November 8th, select appliances marked with the Energy Star labels are eligible for the tax free holiday. These appliances include:

  • Ceiling Fans
  • Clothes Washer
  • Dehumidifier
  • Air-source Heat Pumps
  • Geothermal Heat Pumps
  • Programmable Thermostats
  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Central Air Conditioners and Room Air Conditioners

Energy Star qualified products are those that meet the energy efficient guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy.  Qualified products must carry the Energy Star label.  With sales tax up to 7.75%, buying a $2,000 refrigerator this weekend could save you $155.  In addition to saving money on the purchase, and being good for the environment, many consumers also benefit from savings related to their utility bills.

Last year many retailers were not well prepared for the tax free holiday.  But this November local appliance sellers say, they’re prepared for the three day sales tax break on selected appliances and are expecting crowds of interested shoppers.  Many retailers are extending hours and offering additional discounts on top of the tax savings to try to entice shoppers to buy.
Unlike the state’s back-to-school tax holiday, there’s no price limit on purchases.  Only products ordered for immediate delivery will be tax free, though delivery itself can occur later. Products delayed because of a back order also qualify.
