On a rainy Tuesday night in Durham, Green Hope Varsity Soccer (Men) upset #1 ranked Jordan High School 2-1 in the 3rd round of the NCHSAA Soccer tournament. Coach Chadwick filed this report.
“What a great win for our boys. Jordan was 21-0 all season, ranked #1 in North Carolina and ESPN had them ranked #3 in the nation.
Jordan is such a great team, but we stuck to our game plan of overloading the midfield with 5 players, then we would attack when the opportunity presented itself. Our captain, Jared Girard had a great night. He scored both goals and he laughed after the game that he got the hat-trick, because he actually deflected a Jordan shot into our own goal, that was their only goal.
It was a muddy rainy night and their field is huge, it took a monumental effort from almost everyone on our squad. We had to sub players in often because the field was bogged down, it was like running in sand. We defended like crazy and our kids were gritty, determined and never gave up.
Now our main focus is to come down from cloud 9 and get ready for the next opponent. It was a sweet win, but we want to play a few more games, so we’ll get back to work tomorrow to prepare for the winner of Broughton/Riverside.”
