Martin Luther King delivers his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington DC
Cary, NC- The Town of Cary remembers Martin Luther King, Jr with it’s annual Dreamfest celebration this weekend at the Herb Young Community Center in downtown Cary. Activities will include a community expo, arts and crafts activities for children, music and an awards presentation and exhibit for the Dreamfest Student Art Contest.
SATURDAY
1 PM – Community Expo
3 PM- Student Art Reception
4 PM - The Chamber Choir of the Concert Singers of Cary will present a free concert featuring music from the African and African-American musical tradition.
6 PM - Actor and writer Mike Wiley will present One Noble Journey, a one man dramatic presentation based on the miraculous true lives of three slaves who overcame seemingly insurmountable odds to gain a life free of the shackles of slavery. Gripping from start to finish, Wiley becomes Henry “Box” Brown a black slave who sees no alternative but to mail himself in a small crate to freedom. Brown’s life unfolds like a Mark Twain adventure, perilous and somber at times while humorous and heroic throughout. Willing students and adults join Wiley on stage and quickly become characters propelling the historic action.

The members of the Chamber Choir are honored and excited to be a part of this event. We will be accompanying Mike Wylie with musical background for his show as well as our own performance. This powerful music of longing and freedom touches our soul as we sing it; we hope it will touch the audience as well.
