Cary, NC – Every year, Fortune Magazine lists the top 100 companies to work for in the U.S. Once again, Cary’s on the list. Twice.

THE ENVELOPE PLEASE

According to Fortune, the Number 1 company to work for in the United States in 2010 is SAS.

SAS has made the list every year for the past thirteen (since Fortune began the effort), but this is the first time they’ve taken top honors.

Fortune lauds SAS for an employee-friendly culture that offers benefits including meaningful daycare options, an on-site sauna, 90% coverage of health care and much more. The on-site clinic is free:

“We don’t even have a billing department,” says Gale Adcock, the director of corporate health services. “We charge you for one thing — if you miss your appointment and don’t give us notice. That’s $10.”

Is SAS founder Dr. Goodnight crazy? Not at all. Employee turnover at SAS is an industry-low 2%.

“My chief assets drive out the gate every day,” Goodnight likes to say. “My job is to make sure they come back.”

ALSO IN THE TOP 100

The other Cary company to make the Fortune Top 100 Places to Work for 2010 is Kimley-Horn at #62.

Incorporated in 1967, Kimley-Horn employs over 1,800 people across the U.S. They provide expert consulting services in aviation, transportation, water resources, the environment, urban planning and more. Their headquarters are on Weston Parkway.

ALSO IN THE TRIANGLE

Cisco ranked #16 on the list. While not in Cary, Cisco merits a mention because so many people from town work at their campus in RTP. The company is headquartered in San Jose, CA.

Congratulations to all the honored companies and their world-class employees. Just another reason to love living in Cary.

NetApp is right across the road from Cisco and employs quite a number of Cary citizens. NetApp took #7 this year in the same list, and sat at no less than #1 in 2009.

NetApp also has a significant presence and is not mentioned in your article.

Please also note that Monsanto has a presence in RTP next to the Park Research Center incubator. They recently acquired Athenix and expanded a state-of-the-art greenhouse facility off of T.W. Alexander Drive.
