February is Hopping at Middle Creek Community Center

Cary, N.C -  Ever since I got started working on CaryCitizen, I have been continually amazed at the great services and education offered by the Town of Cary.   Middle Creek Community Center at 123 Middle Creek Park Avenue has announced its 2010 functions.   From ballroom dancing to science and math it’s all here!

Basics of Cartooning – Zombies, Ghosts, Vampires and More (age 11-15)
In this two hour workshop you will learn the basics in cartooning. Each class will conquer a new theme exploring manga style as well as the classics of cartooning.
Fees: $21 (R) $27 (N)
Wed Feb 17 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Drop-In Ballroom Dancing
An evening of informal instructional ballroom dancing in February. Partners are welcome but not required.
Fees: $5 (R) $6 (N) per person
Beginner: Fri Feb 5 8:30-9:30 p.m.
Intermediate: Fri Feb 19 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Adult Fitness – From the Couch to 5K
This program is designed for the beginner or intermediate runner who would like to improve their overall health and tackle the sport of running. If you can walk briskly for 25 minutes and want to make the transition to running, this group is for you. You run/walk once per week with the class and will be given instructions for running independently 2-3 more times per week. Emphasis is on individual development culminating in the Cary Road Race 5K on April 10.
Fees: $105(R) $135(N) (20 classes)

Youth Fitness & Wellness – Stretch-n-Grow, Sports Adventure (age 4-7) T-Ball
Drop off your child for an action-packed, non-competitive fitness and sports activity class. Includes group exercise, games and the fundamentals of each sport.
Fees: $27(R) $35(N) (3 classes)
Thu Feb 11-25 4:45-5:30 p.m.

Preschool Fitness & Wellness – Stretch-n-Grow, Ready, Set Go!
Come and let your kids enjoy 45 minutes of varied activities including singing, balls, parachute play and lots of gym activity fun!
Fees: $27(R) $35(N) (3 classes)
Thu Feb 11-25 10-10:45 a.m.

Stretch-n-Grow, Preschool Fitness (age 2-5)
Drop off your child for a fabulously fun fitness program that teaches kids to enjoy exercise by featuring their favorite movie characters and music.

Thu Feb 11-25 11-11:45 a.m.

Introduction to First LEGO League (age 5-8)
FLL is an international competition held every year to get students excited about learning science, technology, engineering and math. In this class, students will have the opportunity to try out the previous year’s robot challenge and project. They’ll learn teamwork, problem solving, programming, and a variety of information about our climate. This class will meet for a fraction of the time required during a normal season to give the students a taste of the competition without the full commitment.

Duplicate Bridge
Thursdays and now Tuesdays! are bridge days at the Middle Creek Community Center. Our games are ACBL-sanctioned and are limited to players with fewer than 1000 master points. Questions? Our friendly instructor will be happy to speak with you about the program.

Red Cross Babysitting (age 11-15)
What you need to know, and what every parent wants in a responsible babysitter! The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course can help you:
*Interview for a babysitting job, *Choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, *Perform first aid, *Learn diapering and feeding techniques, *Handle bedtime issues, *Learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience, and more!

LEGO Robotics Birthday Parties (age 6-12)
Program robots and compete in a robot challenge. Invite up to 15 friends for a fun, action-packed robotic party sure to thrill all! What’s more, every guest will leave with a LEGO party favor, A ‘robotacist’ will lead the first hour of the party, leaving the second hour for refreshments and gifts. Cost per party is $175 for Cary residents and $205 for non-residents.

Mad Science ® Birthday Parties (age 6-12)
Book your Mad Science ® Birthday Party and choose from a variety of themes including Rockets, Detective Science, Dinosaurs and more. Then invite up to 15 friends for a fun, action packed 2 hour scientific party sure to thrill all who attend! What’s more, every guest will leave with a unique and exciting party favor. A “mad scientist” will lead the first hour of the party, leaving the second hour for refreshments and gifts. Cost per party is $175 for Cary residents and $205 for non-residents. Call us to reserve your party and choose your theme!

Fusion Birthday Parties (age 3-10)
Supercharge your child’s next birthday celebration by making it a Fusion Party! Your “guest of honor” and up to 25 friends will warm up to dance music and play games like “Freeze”, “Animal Action” and “Wonderball”, or get moving to aerobic tunes with activities like “Red Light/ Green Light”, “Around the World Basketball”, “Musical Mats” and more! The use of ribbons, hula hoops, cones and parachutes adds to the fun. Each Dance Fusion party is 2 hours long. Fitness Instructor Stacy Smith leads dance, games and fitness activities during the first hour. The second hour is set aside for gifts and refreshments.
Cost for each party is $175 for Cary residents, $205 for non-residents.

Stretch-N-Grow Birthday Parties (age 2-7)
Let’s Party…..Stretch-N-Grow style! Register your birthday tot and invite up to 14 children and enjoy a fun, action packed 45 minute class that will include songs, parachute play, ball play and more! After class we will have another 45 minutes for cake and present opening.
Fees: $158(R) $188(N)

Open Gym
The Community Center gym is open year-round for a variety of activities including basketball, volleyball and table tennis. Call us for a schedule of dates and times. A parent must sign the liability waiver prior to youth or teen participation.
