Why fight an opportunity for a day off once a year? Or an opportunity to sit by a fire with a beverage and your dog at your slippered feet?
I like it just fine.

We're on to something. One day off a year is not going to bring the company to its knees.

I agree with George. One of the N'or Easters hit when I lived in NJ and commuted to NYC (via bus). Cars were floating down the West Side Highway. When I called my boss to find out if the office was closed, she laughed and said "Girl, why aren't you here, the office is open. If you don't come in, it's a personal day." I said, "Oh, I think I may have a problem. The Lincoln tunnel is flooded." But I did go to work. I'm jealous I didn't grow up here, as well. Just the hint of snow, and everyone is wussed out. I don't need to own a truck or SUV. I live in an apt, which is fine with me.

All good advice that reminds me of my days in the frozen tundra of the north.

I always get a good laugh at how Southern folk react to the weather: just the mention of possible snow and you have 2 hr delays at schools. I remember being a kid, watching the snow pile up outside, calling the school every minute on the minute to see if we have a delay (boo!) or closing (yay!). Everyone knew that snow could be driven in, what you really wanted was ICE. Truth be told, I'm jealous that I didn't grow up here.

Anyway, good advice, especially the tip about putting snow in the bed. I have nothing of value to add, just wanted to share my story ;)
