Members of the Cary Photographic group prepare for their Raleigh Show
Photo by Bob Lanahan of CPA
Cary, NC - Cary Photographic Artists (CPA) will hold an opening night reception March 15th, from 6:30 til 8:30 pm for their collection of photographic art at the Raleigh Convention Center. The show will run through from May 24, 2010. This is their first large scale show and the first to premier their club to the Greater Triangle area.
Back in early November of 2009, the Raleigh Convention Center was contacted by Bobbi Hopp, Exhibitions Chair and president of CPA about the possibility of having a group photography exhibition. This is the first time that a single group will be exhibiting and only the second time photography has been featured at the Center. On November 7, 2009, the Cary Photographic Artists were confirmed as exhibitors.
Art was selected by the group themselves, and subject matter was an individual choice. With no single theme, CPA members chose to keep the sizing and framing of the pieces consistent (20×26 and 24×28). The Convention Center determined the amount of pieces to be displayed. Thirty-three CPA photographers responded with the first fifty-two photographs that would be entered and exhibited.
All entrants paid for their own materials which were ordered in bulk. To keep costs low, club members chose to do all the presentation work themselves: the cutting of the mats, dry-mounting the images and framing/glassing and wiring the entries. Pictured above are the artists working together to frame everything during one of two massive matting events Jordan Hall Art Center .
