The marathon will include either a ”half” or a ”full” for participants and will start out on Sunday, March 21 at 7:00 am at the USA Baseball National Training Complex at Thomas Brooks Park on the rural roads of historic Green Level.  The full marathon portion of the course will turn south on the American Tobacco Trail.

Registration is full with at a total of 3,300 participants.

Spectators

This promises to be a great race.  The organizers created a detailed map of the best locations to see the event. Here’s a map of the course:

The Cause

The causes benefiting from this race include The Rails to Trails Conservancy (TRTC) a state chartered non-profit, organization.  Its purpose is to work with local and state government officials to preserve local abandoned railroad corridors for future transportation and other interim uses such as recreational trails.  Benefiting also is the Wounded Warrior Project.  The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower severely wounded service men and women.

Traffic Alert

The Town of Cary has issued this traffic alert. “(The race) will draw a large amount of pedestrian traffic in Northwestern Cary; drivers should use extreme caution and expect delays on roads near or around Thomas Brooks Park, the American Tobacco Trail and New Hill Road, including Green Level Church Road, New Hope Church Road, State Road 1716/Yates Store Road, Weldon Ridge Boulevard and Green Hope School Road. ”
