Sports: 700 Swimmers in Cary

Triangle Aquatic Center hosted "The Meet Near the Hill" May 21-23

Cary, NC- Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC) hosted a mammoth meet with over 700 swimmers this past weekend beginning Friday night and finishing Sunday afternoon.

Three local teams competed including: WAVE (with 58 swimmers), the  YMCA of The Triangle’s  YOTA team (entering 34 swimmers)  and the Marlins of Raleigh, MOR (with 90). WAVE swims regularly at TAC.

These were all short course individual swim events with no race being longer than 200 yards. No relays were held.

Swimmers from Cary did remarkably well. Each event featured well over 80 swimmers. Below are the event results where Cary area swimmers landed in the top 3:

• Men 100 Free: 1st place: Kyle Disney-Huss, 18 YOTA, 54.68;  2nd place: Jordan Denmark, 18 WAVE, 55:32
• Women 13-14 100 Free: 2nd place: Kelsey Lawton, 13, MOR, 1:01.83
• Men 13-14 100 Free: 1st place: Stephen Hollinshead, 14, YOTA, 58.85; 2nd place: Michael Hammack, 14, YOTA, 58.85
• Men 200 Breaststroke: here MOR dominated 6 of the top 8 spots
• Women 13-14 200 Breaststroke: 1st place: Katy Williams, YOTA, 2:44.85; 2nd place: Olivia Jes, WAVE, 2:49
• Men 13-14 200 Breast: 1st place: Sean Yea, 13, WAVE, 2:36.91; 3rd place: James Bartel, 14, YOTA, 2:47.93
• Women 200 Backstroke: 1st place: Kelsey Moore, 15, WAVE, 2:27.91; 2nd place: Hannah Stephenson, 17 YOTA, 2:28 ; 3rd place: Lillie Smith, 15, MOR 2:30.13
• Men 200 Backstroke: 2nd place: Jordan Denmark, 17, WAVE, 2:14.50; 3rd place: Alex Eider, 18, MOR, 2:14.55
• Men 13-14 200 Backstroke: 3rd place: Michael Hammack, 14, YOTA, 2:26
• Women 13-14 200 Fly: 3rd place: Rachel Mulligan, 14, YOTA, 2:35.06
• Men 13-14 200 Fly: 2nd place: Stephen Hollinshead, 14, YOTA, 2:31

Unofficially I would say Cary rocked the pool….
