Cary, NC- A playwright is born. The Cary Players latest  production, “Ruby Red”, is written by one of their own, Phil Lowden.

By day, Phil is a consulting engineer with Cisco. I asked him how he got his start play writing and he mentioned that he has a college degree in English and has “always been interested in writing.” The spark that started his new passion was a workshop conducted by Steve Roten of Meredith College in 2007 sponsored, by the Cary Players.

The workshop led to the development of the Cary Playwright’s Forum. Through the Forum, Phil authored a short play produced as part of the Cary Players’ “Love Bits and Bites” earlier this year.

Director Jaret Preston is responsible for championing “Ruby Red” to be produced in what is usually the “off season” for the acting troop. Auditions were about 5 weeks ago, and rehearsals began right away. Typically the group produces published plays about 4 times a year. With this project, the monies raised will go to support the The Players and the Forum.

The Show’s Premise

Jack and Anne Wells’ curmudgeonly neighbor, Lloyd Dobbs, dies, leaving behind a desirable estate, three grown up but confused children, and lingering questions about the meaning of home and family. Will the answers drive Jack and Anne apart or bring them closer together?”

Show Location and Dates

Three community performances have already been held to “road test” the production. Now it’s on to the big stage.
