Cary, NC – While on a routine traffic stop, Town of Cary Police closed a crime spree involving 21 larceny cases and dozens of victims.

Matthew T. Sapienza, 25, of Cary, North Carolina has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Resist, Obstruct and Delaying a Police Officer.

Last month, Sapienza was seen driving without his tail lights on. During the routine traffic stop, he fled on foot, and a search of his vehicle yielded several stolen goods from vehicles in the Cary area. Further investigation of his residence linked him to 19 cases, plus two additional cases in Morrisville, with 33 total victims. So far, about a dozen people have reclaimed their property.

“In most cases, motor vehicle larcenies can be prevented if the driver takes an extra moment to remove valuables from plain sight, close the windows and lock the doors,” said Pat Bazemore, Town of Cary Police Chief.
