Cary, NC - Cary celebrated Charlie Adams’ commitment to sports and our community by naming the Cary High School Gym in his honor. Surrounded by friends, family and colleagues, Mr. Adams was bestowed this recognition as a tribute to his abilities as an athlete, a leader, and a role model.
Following an outstanding high school athletic career while attending Cary High School from 1952 through 1956, Charlie Adams played basketball at East Carolina University before returning to Cary High School as a coach in 1962. In 1967, Adams joined the North Carolina High School Athletic Association as assistant director.
For 42 years Charlie Adams served in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, including 25 years as executive director. During his tenure as executive director, North Carolina has taken its place among the top high school associations in the country.
Among Adams’ impressive career and honors, he is a member of the East Carolina University Sports Hall of Fame, a charter member of the Cary High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the North Carolina Athletic Directors Hall of Fame and the prestigious National High School Sports Hall of Fame.
