Cary, NC- For many of us, RDU International Airport is where we leave for family vacations, or business travel. But it is also where our local military either leave their families for deployment, or where their families spend countless hours awaiting their return.
Creating Bright Space
To help make that time more pleasant for families, the USO at RDU is creating “Bright Space”. This area in Terminal 2 will be specifically designed for families of military. “Bright Space” will offer children a place of comfort during long layovers or while waiting for a homecoming. Sadly, it can also offer privacy to children of the fallen when families await the Transfer of Remains Ceremony.
Walk On Event- Fund Raiser
U. S. Army Sergeant David Nobles and his family live here in Cary. He has had several deployments himself to Kosovo, and knows how tough those waits can be for his wife and children.
So Nobles and his wife decided to create a space here at RDU where families would be comfortable. They partnered with the Bright Horizons Foundation For Children, the non profit arm of “Bright Horizons Learning Centers.” This organization typically creates “Bright Spaces” for at risk children in communities served by Bright Horizon. Nobles thought the military families could use this help too.
To raise funds for the center. Nobles and his family are leading the “Walk On” fund raising event this Saturday, November 13th from 9 am to 12 am. The walk begins and ends at the Bright Horizons at Imperial Center 1012 Slater Road in Durham. There will be face painting and balloon art for the kids as well as a scavenger hunt and other activities.
Visit the “Walk On” website. You can register to walk, get event details and share info with friends.
