Cary, NC- Its Official- a world record was broken!
NC elementary school students and Kangaroo Express are officially part of a Guinness World Record for “The Most People Sport Stacking in Multiple Locations in One Day.” Students on the sport stacking team at Oak Grove Elementary School participated in an official Stack Up! event at the Kildaire Farm Road Kangaroo Express location last Thursday.
The record-breaking number is over 314,000 stackers, breaking the World Sport Stacking Association’s (WSSA) goal by more than 14,000 stackers.
The Pantry, Inc. (headquartered here in Cary) hosted the attempt by Oak Grove Elementary School to be part of this record breaking sport stacking event.
The 2010 WSSA Stack Up! is a Guinness World Record event where sport stackers around the world try to set a new record for “Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day”, set last year at 276,053 stackers. In addition to more than 20 students from Oak Grove Elementary School, Kangaroo Express brought the Team USA sport stackers to teach the students stacking tips and to stack along with them as part of Stack Up!
All Team USA sport stackers have broken state or world records in sport stacking. Daniel Hong, age 8, and Emma and Heath Slabach, ages 10 and 11 respectively, are Team USA record holders from North Carolina who will attend the event at Kangaroo Express.
“Sport stacking is an activity enjoyed by all ages and cultures. It promotes hand-eye coordination, fitness, teamwork, speed and is lots of fun. This is the fifth year we’ve teamed up with Guinness World Records, and we’re excited to have another shot at breaking a world record,” said Bob Fox, WSSA founder and executive director. “We’re pleased that companies like The Pantry recognize sport stacking’s ability to inspire students and are thrilled it has reached out to its local community to make Stack Up! a memorable event for Oak Grove Elementary.”
At the conclusion of the event, Kangaroo Express and Speed Stacks donated the Speed Stacks sport stacking equipment including Speed Stacks cups, StackMats, and competition timers to Oak Grove Elementary School.
