Forecast: Brutally Cold with Snow

December 14, 2010 | Story by: | Categories: Featured, News

Cary, NC – I couldn’t believe my eyes this morning. Standing in the kitchen, coffee mug in hand, I looked at the thermometer out on the deck. 20 degrees?

Seriously, I thought the thermometer was busted. So I checked the bird bath. It was a bird skating rink.

The Triangle is 30 degrees below average for this time of year, according to the Southeast Regional Climate Center (SERCC). Avergage temps for this time of year are 53-35 (daily high-low).

And our weather week is only going to get wilder.

Wednesday – Still Cold

Expect more unseasonably cold weather with a low around 25 and a high near 40.

Thursday – Snow?

Here’s where it gets dicey. Warm southern air will push back the brutal Canadian cold front Thursday through Saturday. Snow could start as early as Thursday morning, dealing the Triangle a sloppy rush hour and a potential school closing. (I have no official word on this – just going from experience).

Precipitation should change over to rain by Thursday evening into Friday. Wet weather is again a possibility for the weekend.
