Cary, NC – Tired of winter? Sick of cold and dreary weather? Here’s a sign of spring: Cary’s two Farmers Markets open up for the season starting this Saturday, April 2.
In operation since 1991, the Cary Downtown Farmers Market makes its home on East Chatham Street across from the Circus Family Restaurant.
Expect all manner of fresh-from-the-farm spring produce including lettuce, cabbage, radishes, mustard + turnip greens, arugula, collards, sweet potatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and hydroponic tomatoes. You’ll also find pasture-raised pork and free-range eggs as well as wild cherrywood chips that are great for smoking your meat.
Vendors include:

Chatham Square Shopping Center
744 East Chatham Street, Cary NCSaturdays between 8am & 12.30pm
Tuesdays between 3pm & 6pm
Across town is the Western Wake Farmers Market, located in Carpenter Village near NC 55.
Seasonal produce this weekend is likely to include arugula, basil, beets, bok choy, broccoli, cabbages, collards, kale, lettuce, mushrooms, Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, radishes, scallions, spinach, winter squash, Swiss chard, tomatoes and turnips.
You can also expect a fine selection of meats, cheeses, baked goods, fish, locally-produced honey and all-natural eggs. As reported earlier this week, locally-produced honey may provide some relief for seasonal pollen allergies.

The Western Wake Farmers Market has been open for at least a month. It just goes back to its 8 a.m. starting time this week instead of the 9 a.m. start time.

It was a much smaller version and they notified us recently of the April 2 “grand opening” for the new season. They also continued for part of the winter with special dates for Thnaksgiving and Christmas
