Go Local: The Purple Polka Dot

June 9, 2011 | Story by: | Categories: Events, Featured, Go Local

Cary, NC – On a recent hot afternoon, I was downtown visiting the Ashworth Drug Store lunch counter and noticed all the activity going on next door in the little yellow building.

A few minutes later while in the drugstore I ran into Kristin Gurganus. We started chatting. Turned out she is new owner of The Purple Polka Dot, a gift store moving into that location.

Kristin’s enthusiasm, laid-back style and bright smile gave me a glimpse of what was to come. On her opening day, I stopped by again for a visit.

Beachy Chic

When you enter her shop you are instantly at ease. This is no “stuffy” gift store. There is colorful art, with hand written signs and one-of-a-kind furniture in every corner.

This little store is big in charm. Kristin hand paints and designs all of her picture frames and signs. The little vignettes of furniture also boast the hand painted touch of Kristin herself.

She also features hand made items from other local artists. You’ll find lamps, baby gifts, little girls’ dresses, candles and pillows. Many items are re-purposed with a shabby chic look.

Grande Opening

The Purple Polka Dot is now open and planning the Grand Opening for this Saturday, June 11th. Stop and and say hello to Kristin. Let her know CaryCitizen sent you.
