Warrior Ride in Downtown Cary This Friday

Story by Lindsey Chester.

Cary, NC – The Warrior Ride wheels into Downtown Cary on bicycles this Friday, July 27. Be sure to give them a hero’s welcome.

Warrior Ride

The group, whose motto is “Warriors helping warriors”  was founded by husband and wife Bob and Debra Racine of Oak Island, NC with the mission to help wounded war veterans rehabilitate. They do this through challenging adaptive bicycle group rides like the ride that will stop in Cary.

The ride through Cary will begin at the Holiday Inn on Dillard Drive at 9:00 AM. The riders will continue up Walnut Street to stop in front of our Cary Arts Center (at the corner of Dry and South Academy) at approximately 9:45 AM.

They will continue on to the State Capital in Raleigh.

Iron Mike Tour

This short ride through Cary is just a part of a much larger group ride called the Iron Mike Tour.

The tour begins near Ft. Bragg on July 25. The following day the group will appear in Parkton, NC doing a circular route.

On Friday, riders bring awareness to Cary of the group’s mission, and then have a police escort up Hillsborough Street to finish up at the State Capital in Downtown Raleigh.

Community Ride in Fayetteville on Saturday

The following day (Saturday July 28), the public is invited to ride along with the veterans beginning at 7:30am in Fayetteville. Donations will be accepted.

Recreational Therapy

Bob and Debra believe that the recreational therapy of being together with others who have had similar experiences can help put our nation’s heroes on the path to healing. Bob himself is a three tour Vietnam Vet. Bob understands the sacrifices made every day by our service men and women. He wants to make sure that they receive the treatment and respect that they deserve.

The ride events that the Racines coordinate are at no cost to the veterans, all costs are handled through donations and grants. The Warrior Ride is a registered 501(c)3. If you would like to make a donation, visit the Warrior Ride website.
