Cary, NC – CaryCitizen just launched a new mobile app and we need your help. Give the new mobile reader a try and let us know how it works on your phone.
The problem, of course, is that ordinary websites look very small on a cell phone. Mobile apps reformat the web site to make it more easy to read on small screens.
We’ve always had a mobile reader – the same one in use by The New York Times and the Harvard Business Review. It’s great for reading a story but doesn’t address the homepage. So viewers still had to pinch or zoom on mobile devices just to navigate the site.
Here’s what the old app looked like:
Our new mobile app completely reformats the home page into individual, scrollable stories. A button at the bottom lets you toggle between the web view and the mobile reader.
Here’s what the new app looks like:
You don’t have to go get our new mobile app. Nothing to download or sync up. Nothing to install on your phone.
Just visit CaryCitizen.com on your mobile device and the app will automatically load the right page size.
Every system has its trade-offs. For something gained, inevitably something else is lost.
Help us vet the new mobile app by telling us how it works on your mobile device. Is the experience more (or less) satisfying that our previous mobile reader? Be sure to include the type of phone you are using.
Leave your thoughts in the comments to this story or email mobile@carycitizen.com.

Glad to hear! I sent you a screenshot of my Google Phone Browser rendering…. not quiet the same as your photos. Hope that helps with refining this to make it better.

Works great on my Droid. Fast, clean, easy to use. And apparently I can post comments just fine although the comment composition font is quite small

iPhone 3GS. Page comes up quickly. I think the Categories and Tags fonts are too small.
