Cary, NC – Call it the lull before the storm – we only have 22 events on the Calendar this Friday through Sunday. But there are some good ones: 15th Annual African-American Celebration, Triangle Wind Ensemble Marvelous Music Menagerie, A Fifth of Blues. And, yes, a tooth brush exchange.

Friday, Feb 15 – Tooth Brush Exchange

At first, we thought this involved exchanging toothbrushes with other people. But no, to celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month, families in the community are invited to exchange their used toothbrush for a brand new one. Adults and children welcome. Cost: Free.

Participating:

  • 7am – 10am O2 Fitness of Cary (280 Towerview Ct.)
  • 9am – 5pm Urban Oasis Dental (270 Cornerstone Dr. Suite 106)
  • 4pm – 7pm Cary Family YMCA (101 YMCA Dr.)

Friday, Feb 15 – A Fifth of Blues

After you’ve exchanged your toothbrush, take your clean choppers down to RallyPoint for an evening with A Fifth of Blues. No cover – music starts at 8 PM.

Saturday, Feb 16 – Count the Birds at KTP

Per our story earlier this week, the Great Backyard Bird Count is on. Meet at Kids Together Park in Cary at 9 AM.

Saturday, Feb 16 – African American Celebration

Don’t miss Cary’s 15th annual event celebrating African-American history and heritage. This year’s celebration will feature Dub Addis and La’Ney West African Dance & Percussion. Hailing from Ethiopia, Dub Addis plays a variety of traditional Ethiopian rhythms and roots reggae. La’Ney West African Dance & Percussion, based in Asheville, is a professional dance company that specializes in the colorful dance and drumming traditions of West Africa.

The craft and non-profit fair and children’s activities begin at 3 p.m. The celebration begins at 4 p.m. Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave., Cary NC.

Sunday, Feb 17 – Marvelous Music Menagerie

On Sunday, Triangle Wind Ensemble presents “A Musical Menagerie: Young Person’s Guide to Woodwinds, Brass and Other Exotic Beasts of the Band.” Like characters in a play, each instrument in the beloved American musical institution known as the concert band, has a distinctive personality and plays a unique role in the ensemble. This program is designed to inspire a child to take up and play an instrument. Similarly, you may find that it will broaden a child’s musical understanding as both performer and musical enthusiast. Cary Arts Center, 3-5 PM. Cost $5.

I’m told (and plan to find out) that Fridays at Sip… a wine store are the place to be (Darrington Drive, Cary – off Cary Parkway) — and this Friday in particular is a special one as the owner, April, is celebrating a birthday! 4PM – 8PM, so that means I could head over and see the Fifth of Blues (being only fashionably late). Another great weekend approaches!
