Habitat Builds at Cary YMCA

Cary, NC – I try to get to the Cary YMCA everyday. Shoot a few baskets, do a few push ups, that kind of thing. When I was leaving the Y on Wednesday morning, imagine my surprise to find a couple of dozen people framing walls out on the front lawn.

Habitat Builds at Cary YMCA

As most people know, Habitat for Humanity builds low-cost houses with a mix of volunteer labor, generous donations and love.

On Wednesday, Habitat set up shop on the lawn in front of the Cary Y. “Want to hammer some nails?” a volunteer asked me. A mix of people were busy banging away – young and old, women and men.

All day, casual volunteers helped pre-fabricate walls for new houses in Western Wake.

About Habitat Homes

From Habitat for Humanity of Wake County:

Habitat Wake homes are built in neighborhoods throughout Wake County, alongside other professionally built and sold homes.  Our houses are designed to take on the look and feel of their neighborhoods.  They vary in design and size depending on the community and the family’s needs.

The average home consists of three bedrooms with approximately 1200 square feet of living space.  Future homeowners select interior features such as carpet, cabinets and counter tops.  All homes are professionally supervised and built to ensure high quality and consistency.

Habitat Wake provides a purchase program for Whirlpool dishwashers, ice makers, washers and dryers. Whirlpool donates an Energy Star certified® refrigerator and stove to every Habitat home built in North America.
