Cary, NC — It’s a big weekend in Cary with hip-hop dance, events at SK-8 park and the world-famous Cary Diwali celebration.

Weekend: Diwali and More

Thursday and Friday have about 40 events on the Calendar. But let’s skip right ahead to Saturday, October 19, 2013.

Start the day with Save a Life 5K at Wake Med Soccer Park. Then, swing by the farmers market for a week’s worth of fresh, fall veggies.

Around 12, roll over to SK8 Park for the Fall Contest Series. Food, music, skateboarding and BMX. Watch some of the nation’s top pros shred it Cary’s Godbold Park. Admission is free to spectators.

If skatepark is not your thing, load up the minivan for a hip-hop dance and jump-rope workshop at UNC Fetzer Gym starring our friends from Morrisville, Saltare.

Staring at 4:30, there’s a harvest festival at Good Hope Shepherd Church.

The Importance of Being Ernest, a production of Applause Youth Theater, is running all weekend at Cary Arts Center.

Diwali

Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, celebrates the triumph of good over evil. It’s a holiday of food, family, music and dance.

Cary Diwali started more than a decade ago as a small celebration in Jordan Hall. Quickly, the festival grew to an all day celebration with thousands of people at Koka Booth Amphitheatre.

It is truly a joyous festival with a prominent role for children, a rainbow of colors and movement and the smell of samosas on Regency Lake.

Cary Diwali is presented by Hum Sub and Town of Cary. Gates open at 10:30. Lawn admission is free.
