Harold’s Blog: Thanksgiving & Hanukkah

harold-1201

Cary, NC — This week was a holiday week so there was only one meeting scheduled.

Tuesday I met with the town manager and the assistant to the town manager for about an hour. Most of our discussion was on the pros and cons of annexation of a neighborhood petitioning the town.

Thanksgiving

Thursday I enjoyed Thanksgiving with my wife, daughters, cousins (from Mayor Bond’s family), and a friend. It was a lot of fun and we were entertained by my youngest daughter’s puppy which terrorized my cats.

My Thanksgiving was wonderful and I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving.

Hanukkah

Saturday I had the great honor of participating in council member Bush’s family Hanukah celebration. Being a Christian, it is very special for me to experience another religious holiday.

The evening started with the lighting of the candles followed by dinner with traditional Jewish fare. Then gifts were exchanged. I received a very cool gift, a bobble head of me! Strange but very cool.

My family and I had a great time and I am so glad that the Bush family included our family in their celebration.

Emails

In emails this week the Homebuilders sent a building permit newsletter for November. In that report Cary pulled 73 new residential permits which were second only to Raleigh that pulled 89 permits. Cary had more remodeling permits that any municipality with 126.  Cary has seen a 21% increase in permits as compared to this time last year. All municipalities showed growth in permits with the exception of Garner and Morrisville.

There were very few emails from citizens this week. I received only follow-up emails on the geese that I blogged about last week.

This Week

This week will be a busy week. It includes several meetings and events with the highlight being the town tree lighting event on Saturday.

Well that is all for this week. My next post will be on Sunday December 8th. Although I have Facebook and Twitter accounts those are not the best means of communications with me. Please send all Town of Cary questions or comments to Harold.Weinbrecht@townofcary.org and email personal comments to augustanat@mindspring.com.

How wonderful that you were invited to share in another faith tradition than your own. That Hanukkah and Thanksgiving coincided this year was a rare thing, and a perfect occasion to remind ourselves that we can all be grateful for our faiths and our friends. Humility and willingness to learn from others are spiritual strengths.
