Cary, NC — This week was the first of two holiday weeks.
Meeting Mark Stohlman
I only had two meetings this week. The first was with Morrisville’s new mayor Mark Stohlman. We talked for about an hour on a variety of topics including the best way to manage a full time job and being mayor, leadership styles, the other mayors of Wake County, best practices for a good working council, and the advantages and disadvantages of less frequent meetings for the Cary-Morrisville Joint Issues Committee. I wished Mark luck and offered any help I could give.
A Potential Candidate
My other meeting was with an individual who was considering running for Wake County Commission. Our conversation focused on ways the Wake County Commissioners could better help Cary. Two topics we discussed were helping connect greenways and partnering in economic development opportunities. Our meeting lasted about an hour.
I worked at my other full time job on Monday and Tuesday this week. My family ushered at the Christmas Eve 9 PM service (we have done this since our girls became adults). The rest of the week was spent with family enjoying the holidays. I did spend a little time working on the State of the Town address which is due for fact checking on January 2nd.
Christmas Water Main Break
The town staff had three days off this week so there was very little information coming from them. However, it should be pointed out that there was a water main break on Christmas and according to sources the town staff fixed this with smiles on their faces despite being away from their families on Christmas. Another example of why Cary has the best staff in the state.
Nastigrams and Prayers
Emails from citizens this week were also very light. For some strange reason this time of year usually brings out the worst in a few people. This year was no exception and including a couple of nastigrams. One included insults and name calling because we raised rates on CTran. The other was from an individual that frequently complains about essentially everything we do.
In one good email a lady asked that we pray for our youth who are constantly exposed to drugs and alcohol. God bless her!
Get in Touch
This week will also be a light week. I have a scheduled meeting with the town manager and an Eagle Scout ceremony for 11 Eagle Scouts. Wow! That has got to be some kind of a record.
Well that is all for this week. I hope you all have a HAPPY NEW YEAR! My next post will be on Sunday January 5th. Although I have Facebook and Twitter accounts those are not the best means of communications with me. Please send all Town of Cary questions or comments to Harold.Weinbrecht@townofcary.org and email personal comments to email@example.com.
