Lazy Daze Grant $35,000 to Local Non-Profits

Cary, NC — The Town of Cary’s Lazy Daze Festival Committee awarded $35,000 to over two dozen community non-profit organizations on Tuesday night, February 4th, 2014.

2014 Lazy Daze Grant Recipients Announced

Cary’s Cultural Arts Manager Lyman  Collins presided over the awards, introducing councilmen Jack Smith and Ed Yerha who handed out the envelopes containing the grant checks. Collins quipped that if recipients weren’t in attendance someone else could take the checks. “I’m kidding of course, we’ll see that the groups get their award money”.

Where the Grants Go

One of the works these Lazy Daze grants will fund this year is Camp High Hopes offered by The Cary YMCA, which allows children to attend summer camp free of charge.

Kids Together will use their Lazy Daze  to help pay for a new interactive water misting feature in the Kids Together Playground.

Western Wake Artists Studio Tour will in part fund their annual open houses this fall in Wake County, where visitors can observe artists at work in their studios.

Hum Sub will offer their Spring celebration, Bahat Bahar as a free event. Diamante will use their Lazy Daze grant to produce Ritmo Latino and their Star of Hope Holiday celebration and fundraiser. Cary Visual Art will produce their artist lecture series.The Cary Town Band will use their Lazy Daze grant to produce their free concerts. Cary Ballet Company will fund their Children of the Arts celebration.

Non-profits can apply for the grant money by demonstrating the cause that the money will go to fund.

“Cary has a rich and diverse community,” said Jack Smith, “what makes us special is the involvement of our citizenry.”

  18. Kids Together
  19. Life Experiences
  20. Lucy Daniels Center
  21. Philharmonic Association
  22. Sister Cities Association
  23. Triangle British Brass Band
  24. Triangle Wind Ensemble

2014 Lazy Daze Official Artwork Unveiled

Also during the meeting the official commissioned artwork representing the Lazy Daze 2014 festival was unveiled by artist Tesh Park. The art will be used in all communications and visual marketing of this year’s festival.

    The Friends of the Page-Walker are grateful and honored to have received a Lazy Daze grant this year. Our grant will go toward putting on our second Antiques Appraisal Fair for the community. The first one was a huge hit and we look forward to the next one.
