Cary, NC — Mid-summer in Cary. No giant musical acts in town this weekend and the soccer frenzy has subsided (for the moment). But it’s still a weekend with plenty to do in the Greater Containment Area.
This Thursday is plenty busy with business as the Cary Chamber holds the second day of its Annual Planning Conference in Pinehurst. And in Morrisville, Mayor Mark Stohlman and Wake County Manager Jim Hartman will be featured at a State of Morrisville Breakfast presented by the Morrisville Chamber.
Also Thursday, Cary Creative Center will hold it’s Bohemian Bash at Cypress Manor. The event is a fund-raiser with music, auctions, heavy hors d’oeuvres and more.
27 more Thursday events on the Calendar.
From 8 AM – 1 PM, Cary Visual Art will have cranes and artists out on Academy Street to install a dozen sculptures for the 2014-15 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit. Stop by and watch.
Also Friday, the 17th Annual Auction for Animals presented by Second Chance Pet Adoptions at Prestonwood Country Club.
In the evening, The Hunger Games – Catching Fire is a Koka Booth Amphitheatre. As well, there’s Beach music on the street Downtown.

Whether you’re grilling or chilling, Brooklyn or Bollywood, there’s something good for you at the Saturday morning farmers markets in Cary. The rain and cooler temps have produced a bumper crop of basil and sweet, well-developed corn (a rarity in Dixie). The corn is really good roasted on the grill.
From 12 to 6 on Saturday, Black Irish hip hop company and Town of Cary present the Monster Initiative Contemporary Dance Workshop at Cary Arts Center.
UnVined, that cool little wine bar downstairs at the corner of Harrison and Chatham, has a painting class at 3 PM and a CD debut with Shenette Jones at 7.
Speaking of cool, Six String is back (recent story) with Claire Holley and The Jon Shain Trio, Saturday night at The Cary Theater. The show will be cabaret style, with some of the seats removed to make way for cozy tables. Get there early to get a good spot.
