RESCUE MEN: The Story of the Pea Island Lifesavers

RESCUE MEN: The Story of the Pea Island Lifesavers tells the true tale of the all-black crew that manned U.S. Lifesaving station 17 at Pea Island, North Carolina. The crew, lead by former slave and Civil War veteran Richard Etheridge, lent a hand at a time in history when it normally would have never been taken. The men went on to perform some of the most heroic rescues in the history of the Lifesaving Service.

It was the crew’s actions and heroics that created what we now know as The United States Coast Guard. Right after their meritorious service, and 100 years later, The Coast Guard awarded the crew the Gold Lifesaving Metal.

This must-see documentary tells their story.
