Editor’s Note: The weekly editor’s journal is a collection of photos, thoughts and events from last week that didn’t make it into stories of their own.

Cary, NC — Last weekend, despite the scattered showers, we took photos of 4th of July celebrations in Cary and Raleigh and visited Durham for a Sunday baseball game.

Cary’s Olde Time Independence Day

Each year, on the 4th of July, Cary holds an Olde Time Independence Day Festival in Bond Park before the fireworks show and festivities at Koka Booth. The event is filled with old-fashioned, family-friendly outdoor activities. Lindsey shared these photos.

Cary Downtown Farmers’ Market

The Cary Downtown Farmers’ Market is a seasonal market. It’s held from 8 am-12:30 pm near the Ivey Ellington House in Downtown Cary and always has a good selection of local goods.

4th of July in Downtown Raleigh

Raleigh’s annual 4th of July celebration, called “The ‘Works,” is an all-day street festival in Downtown Raleigh that leads up to two sets of fireworks which begin at 9:30 pm.

Jessica spent the day downtown with friends and saw street musicians, crafts and local goods, vendors and inflatables for kids. She didn’t get a photo of the fireworks but, since she watched them from the top of a parking deck, she captured a neat shot of Downtown Raleigh below.

We were excited to see Boog Powell in the lineup. But, alas, this Boog is not related to the slugger from Baltimore. On the bright side, the modern Boog (Herschel Mack Powell) belted a triple off the wall.
