Pickin8

Cary, NC — Have you heard of Pickin’ in the Pines? It’s a great $5 concert series that’s held at Booth Amphitheatre every Wednesday evening in September.

Pickin’ in the Pines

Pickin’ in the Pines showcases some of the area’s best bluegrass talent – and, in North Carolina, great bluegrass is in high supply. The best part about these concerts is that they’re only $5.

Earlier this year, when I asked my sister to go to an outdoor bluegrass show with me, she made a face and said, “I don’t really like bluegrass.” Bluegrass music isn’t for everyone, that’s true, but these shows are. And I’m not just saying that because I actually like the music.

These outdoor shows, to me, are part of what make summer and fall great. Evenings outdoors with friends and pets, picnics, comfy blankets and music set to mild weather make outdoor bluegrass shows enjoyable whether you’re a bluegrass fan or not.

If anything, they’re a laid-back setting for relaxing after work. “Outdoor shows – especially bluegrass – are just what we do in North Carolina,” I told my sister.

Photographer Tom Mousseau visited the second Pickin’ in the Pines show on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 to hear performers Amanda Daughtry and Abby Stephens.

He got some great shots of both the performers and the crowd enjoying an evening outdoors.
