Support Dorcas Ministries to Help Cary Families

Dorcas

Cary, NC — Last week, Dorcas Ministries’ 4th annual Thanksgiving Breakfast fundraiser collected almost $154,000 for people and families in need. Find out how you, too, can help people in crisis who live right here in Cary this holiday season.

Dorcas Ministries Raises $153,793

Dorcas Ministries held their 4th annual Thanksgiving Breakfast on Thursday, November 5, 2015 in the Grand Ballroom at Prestonwood County Club to raise money to fund their various programs and services that help Cary residents in crisis. More than 300 attendees raised $153,793 for people in need, but, even if you weren’t at the event, you can help too.

Holiday Spirit

Now in its fourth year, the Dorcas Ministries’ Thanksgiving Breakfast is held right at the start of the holiday season. The weather is just starting to get cooler, and people are planning for big meals, gift-giving and traveling arrangements to see family and friends.

Gifts both big and small were given at the end of the breakfast.

Testimonies and stories from Dorcas, though, remind us that, for many people in Cary and Wake County, staying warm and finding any food at all take precedence over any holiday plans.

That’s why, after enjoying conversation with friends over a warm breakfast buffet at Prestonwood Country Club, we joined more than 300 other guests to learn more about the work Dorcas Ministries does and, in true holiday spirit, contribute our own monetary gifts.

Thanksgiving Breakfast

Attendance at this year’s breakfast was impressive – we saw elected officials from both Cary and Morrisville, local business owners and entrepreneurs, leaders of area non-profits and other community members who simply know and support Dorcas Ministries’ life-changing work.

Dorcas doesn’t just provide food and clothes to people in-need. They operate a food pantry stuffed with canned goods as well as fresh foods, household necessities and other essentials. They also help families obtain childcare and teach people how to apply for jobs and more.

At last week’s breakfast, a woman named Angela shared with us her personal testimony about how Dorcas helped her get back on her feet during a particularly challenging time. She described her situation as “the perfect storm,” because she was hit with several emotionally and financially debilitating events all at once. She showed us that, no matter their situation, anyone can find themselves in a position of need. That’s when Dorcas steps in to help.

How to Donate

It’s easy to donate to Dorcas Ministries this holiday season. Whether you volunteer your time to help others, donate a monetary gift, shop in the Dorcas shop or drop off clothes, food or health and beauty supplies, you’re contributing a gift to people in need right here in Cary.

You can also help by riding C-Tran between November 16th and 20th. From the Town’s web site:

    http://www.townofcary.org/Departments/fdts/trafficandtransportation/CTran/news.htm

“3rd ANNUAL C-TRAN FOOD DRIVE EVENT
    November 16th – 20th 2015

Help Us Give Back to our Community During the Month of Giving Thanks!

A collaborative effort between C-Tran and Dorcas Ministries to foster goodwill and end hunger in our community.

A free round trip ride for every one who donates food items (vouchers will be given by the drivers with a designated color for each day). Simply look for the donation bins in each fixed route bus.

Thank you for your valued support.”

Dorcas is a great organization. We rearranged our garage yesterday and discovered many items we have not used in a while but are still in good shape. Heading over to donate these items to Dorcas to help them raise funds in their thrift store for those in need.

    Happy Holidays,
    TJ
