Cary, NC — We found four Christmas tree lightings in the area this weekend – that’s right, four! There’s a lot more going on this week, too. We listed the “biggies” here, but check our Holiday Events Guide and calendar of events to make sure you don’t miss any of the fun.

A free Heart of Cary Association meeting will take place at the Mathews House in Downtown Cary at 7:30 am. Enjoy breakfast and connect with fellow downtowners.

The Holiday Shoppe at Cary Academy kicks off today and runs until Saturday, December 5, 2015. More than 100 local and state vendors offering jewelry, pottery, art, hand-crafted items, clothing and accessories can all be found each day from morning to evening.

WCPSS School Board Member Bill Fletcher will meet with parents and community members to hear their concerns and to answer their questions at the Cary Chamber of Commerce from 1-2 pm on Thursday afternoon. This event repeats monthly.

Learn to make a live holiday wreath at Garden Supply Co. from 6-8 pm tonight.

The Town of Cary hosts the NCAA Women’s Soccer College Cup final four teams tonight at WakeMed Soccer Park. Rutgers University takes on Pennsylvania State University at 5 pm, and Duke University plays Florida State University at 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $20.

Also this Friday evening, Cary’s great art galleries are hosting open houses with refreshments, music and art sales to help people get started on those shopping lists.

Don’t miss the Art of the Holidays show at Village Art Circle in Downtown Cary from 6-9 pm for refreshments and local art priced all under $300. There’s also a Seasons of Joy open house at the Waverly Artists Group in Waverly Place from 6-9 pm with jazz, appetizers and wine.

Other holiday events in Cary tonight include:

  • Winter Festival at Parkside Town Commons (3-7 pm)
  • Chinese Lantern Festival at Booth Amphitheatre (6:30-11 pm)
  • Arbolito de la Esperanza at Herb Young (6:30-8:30 pm)
  • Town of Morrisville Tree Lighting (7-9 pm)
  • Polar Express PJ Party at Barnes & Noble (7-8 pm)

Bring an unwrapped toy to CineBowl in Parkside Town Commons starting at 9 am this morning for a chance to win free tickets to see the Polar Express.

Today is Downtown Cary’s Heart of the Holidays Celebration. That means that family-friendly holiday events are going on all day downtown. Some of these include:

  • Ole Time Winter Festival (10 am-4 pm)
  • Santa’s Workshop (10 am-12:30 pm)
  • Dashing Through The Snow by the Cary Players (3 pm & 8 pm)
  • Carriage Rides & Carolers at Page-Walker (4-6 pm)
  • Town of Cary Tree Lighting (6-8 pm)

The NCAA Women’s Soccer College Cup continues today – the national championship will be played at noon at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Halie’s Boutique in Parkside Town Commons is hosting a Kids Shopping Day from 1-3 pm. There, kids can pick out a gift for mom, dad or a relative. Card making stations and snacks will be available, and everyone will receive a gift with purchase.

The Christmas tree at Crossroads Plaza will be lit tonight around 6 pm, but, starting at 3:30 pm, don’t miss a Victorian Christmas with carolers, Santa and his reindeer, hot cider and crepes. This event is free, but bring a new, un-wrapped toy to donate.

Across the Triangle

The Sound of Music runs until Sunday, December 6, 2015 this week at DPAC.

Saturday, December 5, 2015 is a big day in Downtown Raleigh. As part of the Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest Celebration, there will be a tree lighting, ice skating, live music, carnival rides, gingerbread tent, kids activities and more from 3-10 pm in City Plaza.

See the area’s largest Lego Menorah on Sunday, December 6, 2015 in Apex. This Chanukah Legoland & Menorah Lighting is sponsored by Chabad of Cary. Starting at 2:30 pm, help build the menorah using thousands of pieces. Legos will be donated to the Wake County Children’s Hospital. There are other children’s holiday activities, too, such as donut decorating, dreidel play, a menorah craft, face-painting and bounce-house. The lighting is at 5 pm.
