AT&T Service Outage in Cary

Cary, NC — AT&T users in Cary have been without phone, internet or TV, in some cases for 36 hours. That’s bad news in Tech Town.

Remember a time before internet, cable and cell phones? Many customers of AT&T in Cary have been thrust back into that era with a massive outage affecting cell phones, TV and web access.

“I would very much like to know what the cause of the outage in Cary NC is,” said Theresa Jones this morning on DownDetector.  “It’s coming up on the 36 hour mark for me. 27513 zip code.”

“No service in Morrisville NC since at least 5pm 4/13/16,” commented Faye Scott.

“No service in Cary, NC 27513 since about 18:00 on 4-13-16,” said Jarrett Campbell.

“I just spoke to an AT&T repairmen I saw on the street. He says main fiber to the area has been cut but they have not been able to determine the exact location of the cut. They are still looking. Ugh.” – Bob Klaus via DownDetector.

Other commenters are demanding a refund.  “We requested a refund and were told it would be on our next bill…we shall see,” said Susan Lamb-Tonnemacher.

CaryCitizen’s Matt Young has been without service for 20 hours. “We’ve all become very dependent on cell service, the internet and TV,” he said. “People have been texting me all day because that seems to be working. But we are in a state of disaster as far as the information we expect to get and juggle all day. People are panicking.”

    A couple semi-lame hints:

McDonalds wifi is very reliable, if you can work away from home office.
Lose weight there by walking to same (if possible) and ordering the sandwich with no bun.
Supplement it with sugar free vanilla iced coffee. Fill out survey on receipt and get your next sandwich BOGO!

Ollies sells an HDTV antenna for less than $20 and it picks up local channels quite well.

So did someone forget to call 811 (Call Before You Dig) before digging, or were they just not paying attention to the markings?

There have been tons of accidental cuts lately with AT&T, Google and Time Warner all laying new fiber lines all across the region. A lot of stuff being dug up in areas with lines already buried. Accidents happen. I would not be surprised to see this type of thing happen again and again over the next year or so.

It would be nice if AT&T would at least send out text to let their customers know what the status of the repairs are and approximately when we can expect service again. This is about as poor customer service I have seen. Takes me back to Time Warner days.

Yes! AT&T Should send text messages to customers phones that don’t have service letting them know that they don’t have service, so that they can get the text message letting them know that they don’t have service when do have service again.
