Cary, NC – The Carolina RailHawks won their home game against the Ottawa Fury FC, remaining in first place in the North American Soccer League rankings.
Hawks Wear Down Peiser
The RailHawks beat the Fury 1-0 at Saturday’s game, with the winning goal coming from Tiyi Shipalane. In the 47th minute of the game, RailHawks Captain Nazmi Albadawi managed to get the ball out of a scramble and get it to Shipalane, who scored on Fury goalkeeper Romuald Peiser.
“Tiyi scored a world-class goal, it was simply incredible,” said RailHawks assistant coach Dewan Bader, filling in for head coach Colin Clarke. “To be fair, we needed a goal like that because [Peiser] was amazing. He made save after save, but I told the guys at halftime we would get one and we did.”
Peiser is the reigning NASL goalkeeper of the year and had six official saves during the game.
“Their goalkeeper made it tough,” Shipalane said. “I knew I had to find a spot and hit it. But I give all of the credit to my teammates for working hard the entire game.”
Strong Start to the Spring Season
With this win at the WakeMed Soccer Park, the RailHawks have gone undefeated in the Spring season and stand at the top of the NASL rankings.
In addition, this game marked RailHawks goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald’s first shut-out match. This game was Shipalane’s second goal of the season and Albadawi’s third assist.
The RailHawks’ next home game will be May 7 against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Information about games and tickets is available at Carolina RailHawks.
