Cary, NC – It’s the weekend before July 4th so if you need some practice for having fun, here are some great events this weekend to get you warmed up for fireworks and barbecue on Monday.

Thursday, June 30, 2016

VFW Bingo is every Thursday at Cary’s VFW on 522 Reedy Creek Rd. Get there at 5:30 PM to shop at the thrift store that goes to benefit the Cary area and then have fun at the bingo table starting at 7 PM.

Umstead Uncorked Wine Tasting is having its final event of the Summer at the Umstead Hotel and Spa. This Thursday’s theme is “Red, White and You” with tastings guided by sommelier Hai Tran. The event starts at 6 PM and you can register by calling 919-447-4050.

The Cary Theater is screening Unverified: The Untold Story of the UNC Scandal, a documentary about the scandal in UNC’s athletics department. There will be a Q&A after the event so show up at 7 PM for what is sure to be a lively discussion.

Friday, July 1, 2016

Family Contests at Bond Park at 11 AM with fun games such as watermelon-eating, balloon-tossing, chalk art and more. Events are categorized by age so come out for an afternoon of friendly competition.

Starting June 1, there will be Yoga and Art for Families every Friday at the CVA Gallery in Cary. Starting at 9:30 AM, come out for a soothing early morning class of yoga to relieve the stress of the work week. The event is designed for families so children of all ages are welcome.

Wine Away Friday starts at 7 PM at Chatham Hill Winery with live music, wine tastings and a relaxing environment either in the store or outside under the stars. Also, get a chance to check out Chatham Hill’s micro-vineyard while you are there.

Saturday, July 2, 2016

ARTSQUILTSvoices is an exhibition of many quilts by the Professional Art Quilters Alliance-South. The exhibition, at Page-Walker, is titled “Voices” and is meant to communicate history and culture through images. The show starts at 10 AM.

Barnes & Noble on Maynard Road is holding story time for children this Summer. Saturday’s story, starting at 11 AM, is “Hello, My Name is Octicorn,” the story of a character who is different and teaches us that it is okay to be different. There will be activities following the reading.

Acoustic Nights in the District is this Friday and Saturday, starting at 6 PM at the District at Park West Village. Local musicians come to play free shows on the lawn in front of Stone Theater. This weekend’s artists are Garth Robertson on Friday, July 1 and Tony Barnes on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

Around the Triangle

An Afternoon of Mozart is a performance by the NC Symphony at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh. Starting at noon this Friday, July 1, 2016, the symphony will be playing Mozart selections such as The Impresario Overture, Divertimento in D and Symphony No. 40.

The Great American Bar Crawl is a cross-town event for bar visitation, games, puzzles and more for July 4th weekend. Wear red, white and blue and meet at Isaac Hunter’s Tavern in Raleigh at 2 PM on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

The Eno River Festival is this weekend Friday and Saturday. A massive event to raise money for Durham’s Eno River, the event includes performances by North Carolina artists including Hiss Golden Messenger, Jamie Anderson, Reptar and The Old Ceremony.
