Town Holding Open Houses for Imagine Cary Input

Cary, NC – In the coming months, the Town of Cary is preparing to present Town Council with its Community Plan for 2040. To make sure that plan is as detailed as possible, there will be open house events in the next weeks for the public to learn and give feedback.

Importance of Public Input

The open house events are Thursday, July 28 and Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Herb Young Community Center. Meredith Gruber, senior planner and urban designer with the Town of Cary, said the planners need public input to finalize their plan.

“It will help at this stage because we plan to go to council in the Fall and having public comment will help us shape that,” Gruber said.

Town Council will first see the plan at a work session on Tuesday, August 23 and another on Thursday, September 22 in the event that they need more time. There will also be public hearing on Thursday, October 27, 2016.

“We will be taking the full draft to Town Council after these open houses,” Gruber said. “Then there will be a public hearing with the Planning and Zoning Board, then back to Town Council. Each of these will probably be about a month apart.”

Each of those three meetings will be open to the public.

Planning for 2040

All of this planning is part of Imagine Cary, the town’s initiative to chart the future of Cary. The 2040 Cary Community Plan in particular looks at the plan for where Cary will be 24 years from now and stretching beyond that.

At the open house events, community members will be able to hear the recommendations made through Imagine Cary.

“Here, people will see what our plan aims to do and we’re asking people to share their thoughts of support or concern,” Gruber said.

Among the planks of the plan are to preserve what is already in Cary – neighborhoods, employment centers and shopping – as well as how to grow and sustain the economy and meet the needs of a changing population.
