Weekend Events: Oktoberfest, Local Music and More

Cary, NC – It’s already more than halfway through September and the end of the year will be here before you know it. Take advantage of the nice weather before it starts getting cool with some weekend events around Cary.

Live at Lunch is a weekly event in Autumn. Come out and see free, live music performed by local artists at Fidelity Plaza on the corner of Academy and Chatham Street, starting at 11:30 AM.

The Fine Arts League of Cary is having their monthly meeting. Come meet local artists, lovers and supporters of the arts and curious minds. The league meets at the Cary Arts Center at 7:30 PM.

The Cary Theater has lots of weekend movies and events for you to enjoy. Starting Thursday, the Cary Theater is playing independent movies The Lobster, about a world where single people must start dating or be turned into an animal, and Indignation about a young man in the 1950s who gets pushback when he opens up as an atheist. The movies play at 7 and 9:30 PM.

Friday, September 23, 2016

Triangle Oktoberfest starts this Friday and runs both Friday and Saturday. Starting at 6 PM on Friday and 1 PM on Saturday, you can get a taste of all different aspects of German culture, with food, beer, games, music, dancing and more. It all takes place at Koka Booth Amphitheater.

Raise the Woof is a comedy show with national stand-up comedians performing. But here, all proceeds go to benefit groups that help get dogs out of county shelters with high-kill rates. The show takes place at the Cary Senior Center and starts at 7 PM.

Celebration of NC Songwriters is a concert with North Carolina musicians from all different backgrounds and styles, including Dean Driver, Wyatt Easterling, Isabel Taylor and Rebekah Todd. The show takes place at the Cary Theater and starts at 8 PM.

Fire In The Hole Chili Contest is a chili competition to raise money for sunscreen dispensers at Cary firehouses. The event is put on by the Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Foundation and takes place at Fortnight Brewing at 1 PM.

Carolina RailHawks return home, where they are undefeated this season, to take on FC Edmonton. The game takes place at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7:30 PM.

All day at the Cary Theater is “Art House Theater Day.” There will be four movies screening, including documentaries and kids’ movies. The films start at 2 PM.

Sunday, September 25, 2016

Sips and Strollers is a family-friendly event for free wine tastings for adults plus popsicles, juices and activities for kids. It takes place at Chatham Street Wine Market at noon.

The political series at the Cary Theater continues with the famous political satire “Wag the Dog” about presidential advisers who fabricate a war to cover up a sex scandal. The film plays at 2 PM.

Rotary GlobalRun4Water is organized by Fit and Able and the Rotary Club to raise money for clean water. The event starts at WakeMed Soccer Park at 3 PM, with registration online.

Around The Triangle

CityCamp NC is an event from Thursday to Saturday in Raleigh that brings together citizens, business people and government officials to discuss ways that technology can change our lives and how to handle that. It takes place at Nash Hall on East Morgan Street, hours vary by day.

Hannibal Buress, the famous stand-up comedian, will be performing at Memorial Auditorium in Downtown Raleigh. See his signature comedy style on Friday at 8 PM.

NC Pride Festival is the largest LGBTQ Pride parade and festival in the South. It’s free on Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM with the parade starting at 1 PM at Duke East Campus.
