Cary, NC – Cary High School’s Winter Guard traveled to Dayton, Ohio last week to participate in the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships. They ended up going to the finals and setting a new record for Wake County.

Winter Guard World Championships

Cary High was one of 103 guard units from across the country to participate in the Preliminary round. Green Hope High School also participated in the Preliminary round. Based on Cary’s score, they were promoted to participate in the Semi-Finals on Friday afternoon.

The top 15 units were selected from Semi-finals to go on to Finals on Friday night. Cary made it to finals and finished 14th overall.

First Time for a Wake County School

This is the first time the Cary High School Winter Guard has ever made it to the WGI World Championship Finals. Additionally, CHS was the only Wake County guard to make finals this year in Class SA.

Cary, NC – And now, it’s time for another episode of The Wide World of Cary Sports, this week featuring football, soccer, tennis, volleyball and (a first for CaryCitizen) field hockey.

Cary, NC – Everybody loves football. But how about volleyball, tennis and soccer? They all deserve attention, too.

Photographers Chris Adamczyk and Karl Fisher visited Panther Creek, Cary Christian, Cary High and Green Hope this past week to bring you a taste of the action across our wide town.  It’s a wonderful thing, don’t you agree?

For all of us on CaryCitizen, its inspiring and exciting to stand on the sidelines every week and watch our kids, now young adults, compete with great focus and obvious preparation. We’re continually reminded that education is as much about community as academics. Our diverse and varied sports programs demonstrate every day why Cary is the 3rd ranked school system in the U.S. for mid-sized cities.

I never get tired of saying that.

Cary, NC – Homecoming was happy at Cary High on Friday night as the Cary Imps crushed their cross-town rivals the Green Hope Falcons, 36-0.

Also on Friday night, Brian Pendergraft, Austin Herbert, John Yarborough were honored with induction into the Cary High Hall of Fame.

Cary moves up to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Tri-9 conference. Green Hope continues winless this season at 0-7.

Cary, NC – Crosstown rivals Cary High faced Green Hope in men’s soccer on Wednesday. Tom Mousseau was there to take pictures.

GHHS came away victorious by a score of 1-0. Falcons coach Andrew Chadwick sent us these comments:

Green Hope stay undefeated in conference play at 4-0, with an overall record of 6-2. Green Hope prepares for a difficult week with 2 mile away neighbor/rival Panther Creek on Monday and Thursday will face State favorite,  Fuquay Varina who is also 4-0 and has not conceded a goal all year!
